POSITION STATEMENT
Through legislative outreach and advocacy, Health Action MA is committed to strengthening the health and resilience of all Commonwealth citizens by preserving access to school-based education for all children, advocating for precision medical care, protecting ethical informed consent for minors, and by promoting initiatives to increase access to healthy foods.
Health Action MA believes that every child has a right to school-based education regardless of their or their parents’ religious beliefs. We oppose any legislation that would deny or restrict access to in-person education. The harms associated with loss of access to education are cumulative, lifelong, and are particularly damaging to marginalized children, including those with special needs, racial and ethnic minorities, and those from lower socioeconomic households.
Health Action MA supports initiatives that strengthen the health and physical resilience of Commonwealth Citizens, including efforts to ensure that foods served in schools are safe and do not inadvertently undermine health.
Health Action MA also firmly believes that children and adults who have had adverse reactions to medical products should have appropriate, personalized medical care that acknowledges uncertainty and gaps in data.
Finally, outside of acute emergencies, or certain sensitive health care areas, only parents or guardians should be making medical decisions for children. Excluding parents from medical decisions is unethical and carries a high risk of adverse outcomes.
